The Literacy Link

Some of Britain’s top actors, writers, illustrators, sportspeople and personalities have lent their weight to this year’s Pitney Bowes Pushing the Envelope campaign in aid of literacy charities across the globe.

The Pitney Bowes Pushing The Envelope campaign invites celebrities to design an envelope - all of which are one-off original works of art. These envelopes are auctioned on eBay, with the amount raised in each country going towards the chosen local literacy charity. In the UK, this charity is the National Literacy Trust (www.literacytrust.org.uk).

The Pitney Bowes link to literacy - and specifically to The National Literacy Trust (NLT) in the UK - is an obvious one.
At Pitney Bowes, our products and solutions are designed to enable businesses to communicate more effectively. The NLT is concerned with raising literacy standards across all age groups, and improved literacy will always mean improved communication. The fact that contributors are asked to put their design on an envelope provides a further link back to Pitney Bowes’ status as mail and messaging experts.

Pitney Bowes is delighted to be helping such a worthwhile charity. The NLT’s mission is to make an independent, strategic and practical contribution to the creation of a society in which all can enjoy the skills, confidence and pleasures of literacy to support their educational, economic, social and cultural goals (www.literacytrust.org.uk)

Through Pitney Bowes Pushing The Envelope in the UK we all have an opportunity to support this mission.

Remember - you may take the reading of this page for granted. Your support will help the National Literacy Trust to reach those who might find it more difficult.

Where Your Money Goes

Katy Mahood, Press and Marketing Officer, National Literacy Trust, states:

"Over the past three years, Pushing the Envelope has raised a fantastic total of £21,818 for the National Literacy Trust. This is enough to enable us to reach over a thousand children with our on-the-ground projects in disadvantaged communities across the UK. Depending on the type of project, children choose up to three free books to keep at fun reading events, involving storytellers, authors or even footballers.

"The National Literacy Trust is delighted with the support of Pitney Bowes in organising this event, and with the vital work we have been able to achieve as a result. We're really looking forward to Pushing the Envelope 2007."
